Y Chromosome Test
The Y-Chromosome method allows brothers to clarify whether they have the same father. A saliva sample from the father is NOT necessary. Furthermore, it is possible to carry out a grandfatherhood test, on the father's side.
Explanation:
A man has an X gender chromosome and a Y gender chromosome. The son always inherits the Y-Chromosome from his father and the X-Chromosome from his mother. It follows therefore, that all sons of the same father, have the same Y-Chromosomes. For this reason, two men can clarify whether they have the same father by having a Y-Chromosome test carried out. If both men have the same Y-Chromosome, then they are, to a probability of around 98%, from the same father.
This test would not be suitable if there is a possibility that a close relative of the father (for example, his brother) is the biological father.
